Chevrolet NIVA is a mini SUV vehicle produced by automobile heavy weight General Motors as a joint venture with AVtoVAZ which is the parent company of that rugged Russian automobile maker LADA. Initially launched by LADA as NIVA way back in1977, it has seen many a facelifts as well as engine makeovers. In its present avatar it houses a 1.7 liter diesel engine with fuel injection. An export version is being contemplated with a spruced up engine of 1.8 liter capacity. However, its release date is yet to be decided. Second generation Niva which is expected to be released in 2016 would have 1.8 liter PCA E8 engine under its hood, churning out 135 hp of power. It has been designed by Onderey Koromaz. This CHEVROLET NIVA 2 2016 model would be mass produced at a new plant in Togliatti. Mated with a 5 speed manual gear box and a four wheel drive, it would be an able off roader. It is coming with an unladen mass of 1410 kg and a fuel tank Capacity of 58 L. Engine is mounted longitudinally and has 2 gear transfer cases. The newer versions of the vehicle also get the Chevrolet NIVA Bosch power generators 110A.

There has been a major upgrade in the design shaft which would eliminate the metal knock during operation of the rear suspension.

The Revamped Interiors

Interiors have been spruced up since the days of NIVA of yore.  It accommodates 5 comfortably with adequate seat belt supports. It has more pronounced support for the back and the lateral seat cushions have been added to the newer NIVA. The seat slide levers have been shortened to improve the passive safety of the passengers. The ride comfort has improved with the newer NIVA which have been fitted with gas filled shock absorbers with improved design of the hinges so as to give the occupants a smoother ride.

The More Rugged Exteriors

There is a smiling Grille with the famous GM logo which gives the vehicle a somewhat “happy” façade. There is a spare tyre which is mounted on the rear panel. The rear indicator lights are not overtly expressive but fit in nicely with the rest of the chassis. The roof rails provide an aesthetic touch to the overall looks. Overall from the outside the vehicle is easy on the eyes with hardly any garish makeovers. It has a dimension of Wheelbase  2450 mm (96.5 in), Length 4056 mm (159.7 in), Width 1800 mm (70.9 in), Height 1690 mm (66.5 in), Luggage compartment capacity  320 L, and Luggage compartment capacity with seats folded 650 L.
