Review KIA Sorento 3 – Comfort is within the Reach now

Review KIA Sorento 3 in this highly competitive world of mid-segment SUV to realize it is not really close to being the leader of the pack. Nor does it turn the proverbial heads with its looks. However, there are some very fine points that this 4 wheeler carries which do make a case for having a relook at its specifications.

The Power Train – Review KIA Sorento 3

KIA Sorento 3 back

The new Sorento which has been labeled as Sorento 2016 comes with 3 engine options: the 2.4 liter four -cylinder, the old 3.3 liter V6 behemoth, and the latest 2.0 liter turbocharged version. The 2.4 liter diesel produces a respectable 191 HP whereas the V6, as expected, powers it with a 290 HP thrust. The turbocharged version treads the middle path with a 240 HP output. The V6 engine spurs the vehicle to a speed of 100 kmph from zero in 7 seconds flat. All the engines come with automatic and manual transmission options. All this power and transmission is managed by a patented intelligent all-wheel drive and travels on shiny 17- inch alloy wheels.

The Exteriors

Being a mid-size SUV, the Sorento 3 has evolved into a crossover between a classical SUV configuration and that of a modern car. Its external shell has been completely redesigned in order to give more oomph to its looks.

The Interiors

The newer version carries the comfort of a powered front and rear seats with options like having seat warmers and a/c conduits. Though the interiors are much more refined than its predecessor, but there still lies an occasional feel of the material used being a little too plastic in feel and sometimes even downright tacky. The seats and upholstery are Napa leather in higher end models and the vehicle does have technological goodies like a 360-degree camera and a blind spot detector. The only gripe with this detector is that it occasionally goes “blind” in heavy rain. Review KIA Sorento 3 to observe that overall the improvements in the interiors have definitely given this new Sorento an upmarket feel.

The infotainment is taken care of by an all in one system which is mated to a 10 speaker system and the now ubiquitous GPS Navigation suite. The infotainment controls may be accessed from the console of the LED panel or from the ergonomically placed steering mounted ones.

Price – Review KIA Sorento 3

In its latest avatar the Sorento tries to go head to head with its rivals such as its cousin The Hyundai Santa Fe, Chevrolet’s Equinox, the Nissan Murano, the Ford Edge, the Touareg from the VW stable, Dodge Journey, and the Toyota Venza. Comparable to the prices of its rivals, the starting model is being marketed for $26000. However, with the addition of more options and other goodies, the final price of the top most models may get jacked up to the tune of $40000 or so.

With some great refinements over the previous models, frugal but powerful engines and a comfortable ride quality, the Sorento 3 does tick many of the boxes in the right places. It definitely is a vehicle to be evaluated in case you are planning for a mid-segment SUV.
